We waited again for our connection to Paris – hating the Tour Company.

Finally made it to Paris and then had to get another flight to Rennes to begin our canal boat journey.

Arrived in Rennes but of course no luggage. This time both our cases lost!!!

I had to work very hard on my French.

We both stayed extremely calm as there was no point getting upset. The lady from Air France Really nice and assured us they would be found, hopefully soon.

She gives a 2 Travel Packs containing white T. Shirts – they fitted, toothbrush, comb etc etc.

We then caught a Taxi to Messac to pick up the little boat.

We then had to go shopping but the only shops in Messac are a Supermarket (smallish) and a couple of small businesses. We bought some knickers, a Polo for Darren and Top for me, together with some boat provisions, beer and vin.

We may not have had any clothes but we could at least have a wine.

We took off quite late in the afternoon and had to go through 2 locks first off. It was a little unnerving but by the second lock we thought we were experts.

We putted down the Villaine River for a few kilometers and then pulled in for the night.

We had the perfect French dinner – a baguette, some camembert and a glass of red vin.

Next morning bright and early, another lock then some croissant for brecky – can’t work out why the French women are so skinny!

Its just lovely going down the river with no schedules, no touring,

No wakeup calls. The weather has been quite warm and so I was really hot as I only had a pair of jeans. That afternoon in Redon we called the Boat Company who told us that Air France had found the Luggage and they would deliver it to Le Boat who would drive it down to us the next day – great.

That night we went to an Irish Pub – yes you are reading correctly – with French owners who speak un petit, peu de Anglaise.

They had free WIFI and strong drinks. From there we went to a Restaurant had a great dinner and off to bed.

We woke up quite early so back to the Pub, which of course was closed at 6.00am, to get their WIFI. We stood on the deserted street with only the garbage truck passing and yes got our new emails. Hate not being able to access the family.

We took the little canal boat right down to the Atlantic Ocean –

We weren’t allowed to actually go through the lock into the ocean thank god. Given the chance Darren would have in the very small boat.

All the way we dropped into little villages and had meals in little café’s. So relaxing.

We are now on the way back and have once again decided to stay in Redon, visit the Irish Pub, collect our emails and then return to the same restaurant. I guess it sounds quite boring that we are not trying something new but why change if it was great.

Back in the Irish Pub!!

  1. Hi there, we are sitting by the fire in the kitchen thinking of you in Miami.
Have you done the guided walking tour, Alice and I did in at dusk. The guide Paula was very glitzy and great. Peter is cooking prawns and barramundi for lunch. Perhaps you need a tracking device on your luggage.
Cheers and travel safely Paula XX
